Villages with outstanding character

In Ardèche, a thousand years of history are recounted in the blue and white stones of its villages.

The villages, clinging bravely to the mountainside or hidden in valley bottoms, turn gold in the southern sun, transformed into a magic fairyland. Tiny streets run between ancient houses with stone slab roofs that blend perfectly with the wild hills, their flowered balconies shimmering in the crystal clear waters of the mountain torrents.

These are truly exquisite villages. Some forty of them, each with its own distinctive character, have carefully restored their historic buildings and ancient walls and made them more accessible to visitors.

19 in particular have joined together as signatories to a Quality Charter, laying special emphasis on the welcome they give to visitors. They invite you to share their traditions for a while and take pleasure in their way of life.
