Chassiers
Chassiers, between River Ligne and River Landes, is located near Largentière(
), a medieval town. The village is nestled in a typical Cévennes terraced landscape called ‘faïsses’, where man farms on these stretches of land bordered by stone walls. The old houses are covered with round tiles and warmed by the southern sun rays. Visitors can admire the Saint-Benoît Chapel (
), a Romanesque art jewel from the12thC., part of the Romanesque churches of the Ardèche valley itinerary, as well as the Gothic church(
) fully restored in 1396. On the village square, the 16thC. beautiful houses form a harmonious Renaissance style architecture. Around the village, many hamlets hikers cross, such as Joux, Montcouquiol and Rouvière, have preserved their authentic characters.
