Alba-la-Romaine
Nestling at the foot of the Massif du Coiron (
) amid the vines of the southern Ardèche, this 2,000 year-old Gallo-Roman city today forms a département-owned archaeological site with impressive Roman remains of which the theatre is the highlight.
The mediaeval village () offers walkers a labyrinth of narrow streets and white (limestone) and black (basalt) houses dominated by the castle ().
